Cobblemon Installation Guide

Cobblemon is a mod for Minecraft: Java Edition that adds catchable, battle-ready Pokémon to the game. Because it is a mod, you can’t just press play in the vanilla launcher — you need a mod loader (Fabric, NeoForge or Forge) plus the Cobblemon mod itself. The easiest way to get all of that in one click is to install a Cobblemon modpack through a launcher app. This guide covers the two most popular options.

Before you start

  • You need Minecraft: Java Edition on PC — Cobblemon does not work on Bedrock, console or mobile editions.
  • Have your Microsoft account login ready; every launcher below signs in through it.
  • If you plan to join a server from our Cobblemon server list, check which modpack, mod loader and Minecraft version the server asks for, and install exactly that. A Fabric client cannot join expecting NeoForge content and vice versa.
  • Most current servers run Cobblemon on Minecraft 1.21.1.

Not sure which loader to pick? The official Fabric pack is the most common choice for playing on servers, while NeoForge matters mainly when a specific pack or server requires it.

Option 1 — Modrinth App

  1. Grab the Modrinth App from modrinth.com/app and install it.
  2. Open it and sign in with your Microsoft account.
  3. Search for Cobblemon and open the modpack you want — the official Cobblemon Official Modpack (Fabric or NeoForge) is a safe starting point, or pick a community pack from our modpacks page.
  4. Click Install and wait for the download to finish.
  5. Press Play on the new profile, and you’re in.

Option 2 — CurseForge App

  1. Install the CurseForge App from curseforge.com — pick the standalone version if you don’t want Overwolf bundled.
  2. Open the Minecraft section inside the app.
  3. Search for Cobblemon under the Modpacks tab.
  4. Install the pack you want, then press Play from My Modpacks.

Troubleshooting

The server kicks me on join

Nine times out of ten this is a version or loader mismatch. Double-check the server’s listed Minecraft version, mod loader and modpack version — all three have to line up with what you installed.

The game crashes or stutters while loading

Raise the RAM allocation in your launcher (4 GB minimum, 6–8 GB for big packs), close memory-hungry apps, and update your graphics drivers. If it still struggles, try the official pack instead of a heavier community pack.

The launcher can’t find Java

Modern launchers bundle or download the right Java for you, so updating the launcher app itself usually solves this. If it persists, reinstall the launcher and let it re-download its Java runtime.

Something looks different from vanilla Cobblemon

Community packs often add extra mods, quests or server-specific content. For a clean baseline experience, install the official Cobblemon modpack for your loader.
